Meningitis B Vaccination Guidance

We are aware of recent news reports regarding a meningitis B outbreak and understand that this may be concerning for our patients.

At present, there has been no change to NHS guidance regarding meningitis vaccinations. The NHS continues to offer meningitis vaccines only as part of the routine national immunisation schedule, which includes:

  • Meningitis B (MenB) vaccine for infants under 2 years of age
  • MenACWY vaccine for young people aged 14 to 25 years (including catch-up where previously missed)

Outside of these groups, GP practices are not able to provide additional meningitis vaccinations on the NHS.

If you are seeking meningitis vaccination outside of the routine schedule, these are only available privately via some community pharmacies and private GP clinics.

To help reduce pressure on our phone lines, we kindly ask that patients check their vaccination records using the NHS App where possible, rather than contacting the surgery.

We also encourage all patients to ensure they are up to date with other routine vaccinations, such as the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine, which can provide protection against other infections that may lead to meningitis.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
